This month I once again took part in The Fab Furniture Flippin’ Contest and I am so thrilled to share my project with you all! We were so lucky to have the sponsorship of Spoonflower this month! I have been pining over their fabric choices for what seems like forever, so I am just beyond thrilled to show you all my project piece.
Several months ago I picked up this small antique ottoman at the flea market. It was in pretty rough shape but I was completely drawn to its intricately shaped base. Plus, it was on casters and I'm a complete sucker for that!
There was obviously a lot of prep work with this one! I glued the joints back to together, removed loose veneer, patched and sanded it and replaced a missing piece of molding. I also removed the old upholstery and straw/horse hair stuffing.
My favorite way to decorate my home is with a combination of antique and modern elements and this ottoman completely fits the bill. Once repaired, I painted it in General Finishes Patina Green, just very lightly distressed it and sealed it with wax.
I added new foam and batting to the seat and upholstered it in this amazing Salem Witch Trials Toile in heavy cotton twill. (The quality of this fabric is perfection, btw.)
Anyway, I know this an unusual fabric choice, but... 1. I love it paired with the modern green color, and 2. I love that it is a traditional color/pattern with an edgy print. It think it marries my antique with modern style just wonderfully!
